Bossa Modal originated while I was studying at Berklee College of Music. I wanted
to develop a young ensemble piece that not only was fun and interesting for the
students, but also gave the teacher a jumping-off point to talk about modal jazz. I
think modal jazz is one of the best ways to get our students improvising and really
finding their voice with no fear of wrong notes.
