Flight of the Grackles is a classic march modeled after so many that John Phillip Sousa and Carl King wrote. The name “Flight of the Grackles” pays homage to the classic Ride (Flight) of the Valkyries by Richard Wagner and to the Grackle (Quiscalus quiscula), which are seen all over Texas in large groups called plagues. Flight of the Grackles embodies the sense of community that a group of any birds displays. They are strong and motivated, and always move towards a common goal, whether that be food, shelter, or following migrational patterns.
