Pamplemousse Reef comes from an idea based upon the Herbie Hancock classic Cantaloupe Island. I wanted to capture a groovy quasi-Latin modal feel for younger ensembles. This piece takes from many influences, including calypso and soca. The addition of four Latin percussion parts and world instrument parts allows all students to join in on the fun, regardless of the instrument they play.
